Flyers Daily Brief ·

Flyers host Columbus with Ristolainen’s status still unsettled

The Flyers are back at Xfinity Mobile Arena tonight against Columbus after Saturday’s 5-4 loss to Anaheim left them at 3-7. The immediate question is whether Rasmus Ristolainen can go after his return on Saturday was cut short by another upper-body injury, with practice updates now carrying real weight.

Tonight’s setup

Per ESPN, the Flyers are 3-7 and their next game is tonight at 7:00 PM ET against the Blue Jackets. That makes this a quick chance to steady things before the schedule moves on, especially after a loss where the Flyers led 2-0 and 3-2 before Anaheim came back.

Fubo’s preview notes that these are two Metropolitan Division teams “with something to prove” meeting in Philadelphia, which fits where the Flyers are right now.

Ristolainen is the main injury watch

The biggest on-ice storyline today is Rasmus Ristolainen. Broad Street Hockey reported Monday afternoon that after missing time since Oct. 3, he returned against Anaheim but was quickly put back on the shelf with an upper-body injury.

Philly Hockey Now added that the expectation is he could miss more time, while KVUE’s roundup of Flyers practice also pointed to an injury update on Ristolainen ahead of this matchup.

A small sign of progress

One thing worth keeping from the Ducks game is the power play. Miami Herald reported the Flyers have scored power-play goals in four straight games, including two on Saturday, which is at least a foothold in a season that started poorly with the man advantage.

That does not fix everything, but the Flyers do enter tonight against Columbus after scoring power-play goals in four straight games.
