Eagles return home with injuries, trade chatter and Carolina next

The Eagles are back at 2-3 after the 19-17 loss to Jacksonville in London, and the numbers still point to the same issues: 232 total yards, 7 penalties, and too little production on the ground. On top of that, Will Shipley’s partial plantar fascia tear adds another injury to the backfield before Carolina visits Sunday.

London loss still looks like the story

The latest result came 46 hours ago, and it was another narrow one that slipped away. Philadelphia fell 19-17 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite a defense that forced one turnover and got an interception from Quinyon Mitchell, because the offense managed only 232 yards and went 6-for-15 on third down.

Jalen Hurts finished 21-for-40 for 220 yards with one touchdown, while Darius Cooper led the team with 71 receiving yards and a score. The run game never gave the Eagles much help: Dameon Pierce had 14 yards on 11 carries, and the team finished with just 232 total yards against a Jaguars defense that piled up 408.

Backfield depth took another hit

Earlier this week, 6ABC reported that Will Shipley has a partial tear of his plantar fascia, which could sideline him for multiple weeks. Yahoo Sports also cited Adam Schefter saying the injury would keep Shipley out for multiple weeks.

That matters because the Eagles do not have much margin here. Shipley scored against Jacksonville, but Philadelphia’s rushing output was already thin before the injury news, and now the backfield gets even harder to sort out before the Panthers game.

What the next few days are about

The home game against Carolina on Sunday is the next checkpoint, but the chatter around the team has already moved beyond one loss. PhillyVoice argued the Eagles should consider selling off some veteran pieces, while PennLive raised the same trade-rumor idea around players who could move if the skid continues. Those are opinions and rumors, not facts, but they reflect how fast the conversation has changed around a 2-3 team.

At the same time, the Eagles’ own messaging is about getting back to work. That leaves Sunday as a straightforward test: clean up the mistakes, find a usable run game, and respond at home against Carolina.
